Dear Mr O’Brien

Attached to this email is a transcript of the interview I conducted with you on 30 July last.  The transcript has been typed by my Secretary from the tape recording of the interview which is held at my office.

I should be grateful if you would carefully check the transcript to see that it accurately reflects the information that you provided to me during the course of the interview.  You will note, I imagine in parts, small typographical and other errors.  Where you do so, or where there are other errors which require correction, would you please note the corrections on the transcript and when you have completed the exercise, email the corrected transcript back to me so that the corrected transcript can be completed and sent to you.

If you require to have access to the tape recording for that purpose would you please let me know and I will arrange to send it to you or otherwise arrange for you to have access to it.

I should be pleased if you could arrange to have your review of the transcript completed as soon as you can.

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Mr Bruce Squire QC

WHAIKA TE WHAKAPONO:  Seek for the Truth — Follow the Truth

Thank you for your 12 August 2009 email {above} with a draft transcript of our interview in Wellington on 30 July, last

The transcript has missing passages and, while these missing passages do not appear very significant in themselves, it is best that there is no uncertainty in my own mind before I sign off . . .

Will you please arrange for a copy of the audio record onto a CD-ROM for my review and I will advise a Poste Restante address for its delivery

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Bruce Squire QC

WHAIKA TE WHAKAPONO:   Seek for the Truth  —  Follow the Truth

I refer my letter 27 August 2009 {above} regarding missing passages in the transcript of our interview and thank you for providing an audio copy on CD-ROM for my review

At first blush I presumed your secretary had simply left out the passages by mistake when transcribing from recording to hard copy – yet that is not the case because these passages are not on the audio record of our interview

To avoid any confusion, I am not talking here about a few words that may have been muffled by either ambient or extraneous sound, Mr Squire, nor am I talking about those long periods of silence where either of us are reading documents:  entire phases of our conversation are missing and in their place are white noise and hiss

Given that this was an evidential interview, I feel some disquiet at my discovery, as I expect you will, too, Mr Squire

Perhaps there is a simple explanation . . . (?)

Yours sincerely
